WHAT CHANGES DO I NEED TO MAKE TO COURSE PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THE 2016 CPE STANDARDS?

The most significant change related to promotional materials is the requirement for computersponsors to retain program descriptive information for a minimum of five years. CPAs rely on the program descriptive information to plan their CPE. Course descriptive information includes brochures, websites, electronic notices, invitations and direct mail. Do you offer multiple educational opportunities to your participants? Be sure to clearly indicate which events are offered for NASBA-approved CPE credits. What other details should your descriptive information cover? The following policies should be formalized, published and readily available to participants:

  • Registration information
  • Attendance policies and procedures
  • Refund and cancellation policies
  • Complaint resolution policies

Sponsors are also reminded to distribute advanced preparation materials in a timely manner and to indicate any program prerequisites. Prerequisites are required for programs with intermediate, advanced and update program knowledge levels. Finally, sponsors should ensure that their promotional materials include the current Registry Statement that references www.nasbaregistry.org.
