What Sponsors Need to Know

MY ORGANIZATION RECENTLY BECAME APPROVED AS A NATIONAL REGISTRY SPONSOR. WHAT TYPE OF LANGUAGE CAN I USE ON MY WEBSITE AND COURSE PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL?

To maintain the integrity of the review process and demonstrate that your organization has an ongoing commitment to providing quality CPE programs, there are a few rules about how your organization can market your National Registry sponsorship. Let’s start with the National Registry Statement and logo. As a sponsor, you agree to use the official National Registry Statement in its entirety and without any alterations:

(Insert your organization's name) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. Boards of Accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.nasbaregistry.org.

Promo Material LanguageThe National Registry Statement is required on materials or websites used to promote or advertise the CPE program. The National Registry Statement is often accompanied by the National Registry logo. The National Registry Statement must always be included with the logo (i.e., you may not use the logo only) except in cases where the logo is used in digital media. In those instances, a stand-alone Registry logo may be used; however, the sponsor must include a pop-up window that displays the National Registry Statement or take the user to a separate page displaying the National Registry Statement in its entirety. These guidelines were emailed to your main contact when your organization received its approval on the National Registry. Why are we so picky? CPAs look for the National Registry Statement and/or logo on promotional materials to quickly identify NASBA-approved sponsors, and consistency helps maintain the integrity of the Standards.

Can I advertise that my program is NASBA-approved and include the NASBA logo?

Sponsors on the National Registry are approved for specific program delivery methods and a specific number of programs offered. The National Registry does not approve individual courses or co-sponsor any event that offers CPE credits. Phrases such as NASBA-approved curriculum, NASBA-accredited programs, NASBA-sponsored events or similar language is misleading and not permitted.Other Professions

Use of the NASBA logo is restricted and would not be permitted on course promotional material. Only the National Registry of CPE Sponsors logo may be used as detailed in the section above.

In addition to offering CPE credits for CPAs, I offer other continuing education credits for other professional designations. What language restrictions do I have?

In addition to following the above guidelines, sponsors offering programs with multiple professional designations should clearly specify which programs and program delivery methods are appropriate for the expected audience. Only courses that are compliant with the Standards and reported to NASBA on the sponsor’s program list should indicate that the program is eligible for NASBA-approved CPE credits. A suggestion for sponsors is to include an “accreditation” section to the sponsor website that explains the different types of credit awarded with a list of programs and corresponding program delivery methods.
