Instructional Delivery Method Project Update – Revisions to CPE Statement on Standards for CPE Proposed
During the process of the last revisions cycle to the Statement on Standards for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programs (Standards), the CPE Standards Working Group (Working Group) recognized that advancements in technology, the transformative impact of AI and other innovations in learning and learning modalities seem to be blurring the lines of how the instructional delivery methods for CPE programs are currently defined in the Standards. The Working Group believes that it is time to holistically reconsider the instructional delivery methods and challenge what those might be in the future.
In April 2024, a small task force of the Working Group met in Nashville, TN, to begin the initial deliberations and discussion on the Delivery Method project. The task force proposed a recommended revision to the Standards to the CPE Standards Working Group in August 2024, followed by reviews and approvals through the NASBA CPE Committee and the AICPA/NASBA Joint CPE Committee, which contributed substantial revisions in early 2025. After final adjustments, the document has been approved by the NASBA Board in July 2025 and currently awaits the AICPA Board approval before being released for public comment.
