I AM A CURRENT SPONSOR AND WANT TO PURCHASE CONTENT FROM A THIRD PARTY. WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE 2016 STATEMENT ON STANDARDS FOR CPE PROGRAMS?
Standard No. 5 requires program sponsors to ensure that learning activities are reviewed by qualified persons other than those individuals who developed the materials. Sponsors have discretion to use individuals or teams qualified in the subject matter in the review process.
If you are a registered National Registry CPE program sponsor and plan to issue CPE credits under your Registry sponsorship number, you must abide by the following:
- If the content is purchased from a National Registry sponsor, then you may maintain the author/developer and reviewer documentation from that sponsor in order to satisfy the content development requirements of the Standards. The documentation should be maintained according as prescribed by Standard No. 24.
- If the content is purchased from an entity not registered with NASBA on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, then you as the registered National Registry program sponsor, must independently review the purchased content to ensure compliance with the Standards. If you do not have the subject matter expertise on staff, you must contract with a qualified individual to conduct the review. You must maintain the appropriate documentation regarding the credentials and experience of both the course author/developer(s) and reviewer(s) as prescribed in Standard No. 24.
Please keep in mind that the organization that issues the certificate of completion under its name is responsible for compliance with all Standards and other CPE requirements.
