Mission Statement: The mission of the Vermont Department of Taxes is to collect the proper amount of tax revenue in a timely and efficient manner to pay for the goods and services provided by state government.

The Department of Taxes is responsible for collecting taxes from more than 350,000 individuals and more than 50,000 businesses as well as the administration of more than 20 different taxes.We strive to offer the highest level of service to all taxpayers— the individuals, businesses, property owners, and municipalities that make Vermont great.

One of our goals is to provide up-to-date, relevant, and consistent information to better educate taxpayers and tax professionals about tax law, regulation, and policy. In addition to a variety of written materials and video presentations available on our website, we offer live educational workshops, seminars, and conferences for tax professionals and other stakeholder groups. This interaction not only allows us to communicate information to taxpayers but also provides us valuable feedback to help us improve our services.
