EITC, the Earned Income Tax Credit, is sometimes called EIC or Earned Income Credit. It is a refunda-ble credit if the taxpayer has earned income and the taxpayer must file a tax return to receive the credit. Four of five people that claim the credit are eligible. Due to the nature of EITC being a refundable credit it creates fraudulent claims. There are 6 states that have over a million claims for EIC and they are California, Florida, Georgia, Illi-nois, New York, and Texas. The average EITC refund is $2,330.
