Federal Grant Development: Relationships with Program Officers and Legislators
Many development professionals are uncomfortable with federal grants because they don’t feel there are relationships to cultivate like there are with foundation grants. While each federal department is different, there are relationships that all nonprofits can cultivate to increase their success with federal grants. This session will teach you about these relationships, including how to communicate with legislators without lobbying, how to talk with federal program officers before and after a grant award, and which federal agencies and types of grants are the most open to conversations about your program before you write the proposal.
What You’ll Learn:
- How and when to talk with federal legislators and their staff
- Which federal agencies want to hear about your project before you write it
- How to talk with program officers about your project
- How to talk with your program officer after your award
